About Trench Safety Stand Down Week Trench Safety Stand Down Week, occurring from June 17-21, 2024, is a significant initiative aimed at promoting safety awareness in trenching and excavation activities. First held in 2016 by the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) and later partnered with OSHA, this event encourages employers to discuss safety directly with employees, focusing on the hazards associated with trench and excavation work. The goal is to reach as many workers as possible to reduce fatalities and serious injuries within the industry. Who Can Participate? The Stand Down is open to anyone committed to preventing trenching and excavation hazards in the workplace. This includes utility construction, residential and highway construction, plumbers, military personnel, unions, associations, educational institutes, and safety equipment manufacturers.
